HydraFacial vs. Dermaplaning Before a Vegas Event

HydraFacial vs dermaplaning
Big night coming up on the Strip? A wedding, a birthday dinner or a holiday party? Two facials come up most often when guests ask us what to book: a HydraFacial and dermaplaning.
They do different jobs. Here's what each one does, how they compare on downtime and price at our Henderson studio, when we pair them, and how far ahead to book.
Not sure which one fits your skin?
01What a HydraFacial does
A HydraFacial is a professional facial that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in one visit. Cleveland Clinic describes it as a "three-in-one service" that exfoliates, extracts and infuses serums into the skin, using a wand-like tool that works a bit like a small vacuum.
At our Henderson studio, we usually suggest a HydraFacial for guests whose skin feels dry, dull or congested. That's common in the desert air. On our HydraFacial page it starts at $250, with minimal downtime.
02What dermaplaning does
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation. A sterile blade gently lifts dead surface cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). Cleveland Clinic notes that people choose it for concerns like dull or dry skin and peach fuzz.
We see it as a good fit before events, mainly because foundation and concealer can go on more smoothly without peach fuzz showing through. A visit is about 45 minutes, and it starts at $150 on our dermaplaning page.
03Side by side
- Main focus. HydraFacial: cleanse, extract and hydrate. Dermaplaning: smooth surface texture and remove peach fuzz.
- Downtime. HydraFacial: minimal downtime. Dermaplaning: "Usually none beyond possible light pinkness," as our dermaplaning page puts it.
- Visit length. Dermaplaning: about 45 minutes. For HydraFacial, we'll confirm timing when you book.
- Price. HydraFacial from $250. Dermaplaning from $150.
- Aftercare. Daily broad-spectrum SPF after both, which is a must in Las Vegas sun.
04Pick by your main concern
Skin feels tight, dull or clogged? We usually lean toward a HydraFacial, since it's built around cleansing and hydration.
Makeup looks patchy or sits on peach fuzz? Dermaplaning is the usual choice, since it smooths the surface your makeup goes on.
Everyone's skin is different, and we'll always look at your skin before we recommend anything.
05Can you combine them?
Often, yes. Dermaplaning pairs well with a HydraFacial, and it's a common combination we offer. Whether it suits your skin is something your esthetician will decide at your visit.
Dermaplaning isn't for every skin on every day. Cleveland Clinic advises talking to a provider first if you have active acne, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, a rash or certain skin growths.
06Timing before the event
The simplest rule: don't try something new right before a big night. Cleveland Clinic explains that skin can break out after a first facial ("purging"), that it usually settles within a week or two, and that a facial right before a photo-worthy event isn't a good idea if you're new to it.
- First facial ever? Book a week or two before your event.
- Had it before and your skin did well? A few days ahead is a common choice.
- December events? Book early. Our calendar fills up around the holidays.
If something on your skin worries you, like a changing spot, a rash or persistent breakouts, see a dermatologist before booking any facial.

07FAQ
Is HydraFacial or dermaplaning better before an event?
It depends on what your skin needs. If it feels dry, dull or congested, we usually point you toward a HydraFacial. If you mainly want smoother texture and makeup that sits better, dermaplaning is a good fit. Not sure? Start with a Skin Analysis and we'll help you choose.
Can I get dermaplaning and a HydraFacial together?
Often, yes. Dermaplaning pairs well with a HydraFacial, and it's a common combination. Your esthetician will check your skin first and tell you whether pairing them is right for you.
Will dermaplaning make my makeup look better?
Many guests choose dermaplaning for exactly that. It removes dead surface cells and peach fuzz, so foundation can go on more smoothly. Your esthetician will tell you when it's OK to apply makeup afterward.
How many days before an event should I book?
If you've had the treatment before and your skin did well, a few days ahead is a common choice. If it's your first facial, book a week or two early. Cleveland Clinic notes that skin can break out after a first facial and that this usually settles within a week or two.
Who should check with a provider before dermaplaning?
Cleveland Clinic advises talking to your provider first if you have active acne, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, a skin rash or certain skin growths. Tell us about any of these when you book.
